Where every number comes from, and how old it is

Nothing on AscentWork is estimated or crowd-sourced. Each figure is read from a government file. This page lists every file, the date its data is good to, and what it cannot tell you.

How refreshing works

Vacancies are re-pulled from every employer job board each hour; registers, visa-route figures and new job boards are refreshed every day. All of it runs on schedule in the cloud and publishes only what changed. Nobody presses a button. If a source fails or changes shape, the last good copy stays live, the dataset is marked as stale on this page, and the owner is alerted. A register is never replaced by a partial or empty download.

Countries with no employer register

These countries do not publish a list of employers licensed or approved to hire from abroad, so no honest "sponsor list" can exist for them. We cover them through the salary rules and through vacancies, not through a register.

  • Germany: no sponsor licence exists. Any employer can hire a non-EU worker who meets the Blue Card or skilled-worker rules. The only official employer list is the register of research institutions, which is included.
  • Australia: no public list of all approved business sponsors. The Department of Home Affairs publishes employers with labour agreements, but its site refuses automated downloads, so it is not included yet.
  • New Zealand: accredited employers can only be looked up one at a time; there is no download.
  • Sweden: employer certification ended in December 2023.
  • Norway, Singapore, Japan, France, Spain: permits are decided case by case; no employer list was found.
  • Finland: a certified-employer list exists but sits behind a bot check we do not bypass.

Corrections

Employer names are shown as the government file prints them, including its typos. If you are an employer and your entry looks wrong, the fix is with the publishing agency; once they correct it, it flows through here on the next refresh.
